Plein air watercolor painting of my favorite location – Duran Nature Park in Raleigh! Early fall. There is something magical about the cool fall air. And mosquitoes which are still around! This is a rather tall painting at 22″x12″. I keep watercolor sheets of different sizes ready to paint and found this size right for this subject. I was near the upper lake looking for something to paint. When I turned around, I saw the trail disappear in the dark woods. I liked the idea of capturing that. May not seem like an ideal subject for watercolor painting. But, I paint what I like and don’t worry too much about the theories! I sat down and made this painting in couple of hours. Durant Park landscape will change soon. I look forward to doing more fall and winter paintings there.
